Door Jamb Detailing Process
All kinds of dirt, smears, and stains coat this high-traffic surface. This dirty buildup car can severely detract from the car's look. Detailing door jambs entails cleaning the painted parts, rubber trims, weather seals, and plastic seals lining every car door. If oxidized rubber (black residue) is present, we first remove the residue before applying trim conditioner to preserve and protect it. Our chemicals lift oxidized material to the surface of the seal where we wipe it away with a microfiber.
1. Vacuum
Our visual inspection catches all large debris on the painted panels, seals, and rubbers. Before any towel or mitt is used to wash the surfaces, we vacuum the larger rocks, dirt, and dust stuck in the crevices and surfaces. Some dirt is so embedded it requires agitation with a detail brush or an air gun. Removing the rocks and dirt prevents us scratching the painted surfaces because we are not dragging dirt with our wash mitt or microfiber.
2. Wipedown
Working from the top of the door jamb down. A microfiber cloth or mitt damp with rinseless wash is used to contact wash all the dirt away. Rinseless wash is necessary to prevent marring on the painted surfaces. For stubborn dirt, we use a professional grade APC (all purpose cleaner) to loosen up embedded dirt while still being safe on the paint and rubbers.
3. Drying
Our technician will dry the door jamb with a high absorption microfiber. Any dirt left behind will get wiped away as well. This sets the stage for the conditioner and sealant to adhere to the surfaces. With a clean surface, the sealants and conditioners will stick to the paint or rubber instead of the dirt layer which was removed.
4. Conditioner + Sealant
Rubber and plastic conditioner is applied to the seals and plastic components of the door jamb. Excess product is buffed out resulting in an even coating. Our conditioner provides UV protection and an OEM, matte look.
